OAK CLIFF NATURE PRESERVE

 

Land Manger:  Texas Land Conservancy (TLC). TLC is a non-profit land trust that brings you the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve, a 121-acre natural area in the heart of Oak Cliff. Their mission is to conserve natural areas in Texas and to protect the physical and ecological integrity of their wildlife habitat, native plant communities, and scenic landscapes for the benefit of present and future generations. Trail Steward: Tex-Maniac

 

Type: Single Track

 

Length:  8 miles

 

Description:  Oak Cliff Nature Preserve has 8 miles of trails which consists of 6 loops. The trail crosses 2 creeks that run through the property 14 times, including 5 wet water crossings.The trail consists of a variety of open fields, and wooded areas. In the spring the fields are wall to wall wildflowers.

 

Directions:  To get there from Interstate 35E, take Illinois west and just past S. Hampton make a left on Pierce. To get there from Loop 12, take Illinois east and just past Westmoreland, turn right on Pierce. Go past the houses and black fence that will be on your right. Parking is along street. There is a trail head off the street.

 

Facilities:  None at trail. Gas, Fast Food Restaurants and such can be found on the intersection of Illinois and Westmoreland as well as intersection of Illinois & Hampton.

 

Workdays: DORBA relies on volunteer labor to help maintain a trail, like OCNP, as well as to blaze new trail or making any additions to existing trails throughout the Metroplex. The volunteer outings are known as work days. Work days typically occur on Saturday mornings where volunteers are asked to meet at the site around 8 am and choose a task. Work days typically end around 11 and the group shares in some food and beverage before and after riding the trail. I went out there today as well. While the open areas are starting to dry out, the shaded area are super tacky almost borderline muddy. After talking to pfitzpatarick, we both came to a conclusion the trail needs at least one more day to dry out.

..a lot of the trail is mostly dry (loop 1 & 2), but some of the usual shaded parts are pretty tacky and then you have the usual muddy spots that still have water. That corner just before Sidewinder on loop 2 was the worst!

Any chance this will be open by Friday?  Monday shows more rain....

Got over an inch of rain. Will take a couple of days to dry up.

Walked trail yesterday evening. A few puddles and some slick corners. They may be dry by now.

No rain last night. No rain this morning either. Will check the trail around 6 and post up a report, unless pfitzpatrick post up first.
