Description: Big Cedar Wilderness Trails is located atop one of the most breathtaking escarpment areas in North Texas. Boasting the highest elevation in the city of Dallas, BCWT winds through cedar and hardwood forest and descends quickly into a valley in a dramatic elevation change. The valley consists mostly of mesquite trees and cactus. At this time, BCWT has ten loops ranging from beginner to advanced. They all come off and return to the main trail called Ranger (white). Each is marked by colored arrows. More trails are under construction. 30+ miles of trail are being planned. Video can be seen here.
List of Trails in order: Posted levels of difficulty are will range according to each riders skill.
Texas Sunset (blue)...(this loop starts just to the left of kiosk. You can chose to do Texas Sunset first or last) Advanced
Ranger (white) (This is the MAIN LOOP) Beginner - Intermediate
SxSW....South by South West (orange) Intermediate-Advanced
Blue Canyon (orange inside of white) Beginner
Crooked Tree (green) Beginner
Copperhead Ridge (yellow) Advanced
Man Bites Dog (red) Intermediate-Advanced
Pack Mule (green) Intermediate
I Can (yellow) Beginner
S.O.S (red) Advanced
There is now a 1.76 mile Jeep Road Loop (red/green) all wide double track (walkers and joggers only!!!!)
Disclaimer: Each trail has a sign at its beginning that indicates its level of difficulty. It is the responsibility of each rider, however, to determine what level of difficulty any particular trail has in relation to his or her level of ability (ie: what one person considers beginner may be advanced for someone else.) Each trail, however easy, may hold unexpected trail features and should be ridden with caution. Riders assume all responsibility for their own safety. Mountain Creek Community Church, Big Cedar Wilderness Trails, Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association, and their officers, representatives, staff, boards, and/or volunteers, assume no responsibility and/or liability for personal injury or personal property damage related to or caused by the use of facilities at Big Cedar Wilderness Trails. HELMET REQUIRED!
BCWT also has some dramatic Downhill Areas and a Trials Area. THESE AREAS ARE DANGEROUS AND ARE DESIGNED FOR FOR EXPERT RIDERS ONLY. A Pump Track and Skills Area are under construction (planning stage).

Any Idea when the trail will be up, I got a new bike that is to clean!
Nice work Shane...pretty funny man!
I love the video. Now I have to try the trail.
AS LONG AS WE DO NOT GET MORE RAIN.
HAhahahahaha hahaha ha.
OK, SOS addition is completely done. I raked the last little bit smooth today...tools have been moved to top of hill. If you've ridden it you know there was one spot just past the curved bridge and a small section where it re-joined the trail that were rough. Those have been raked and leaves/trigs raked over the outside edge.
Trail will most likely be OK to ride Sunday if there is no more rain. Even a little Fri and or Sat will keep it closed till next week.
If rain passes and you want to ride Suday, I would still not go past MBD....take MBD to top...do not go back down last section of MBD...the lower stuff could very well be still wet. Everything else should be fine........AS LONG AS WE DO NOT GET MORE RAIN.
Found a pair of sweaty gloves on my way out of there today around noon, anyone lose some ?
I lost a pair of black bontrager gloves in the parking lot on Sunday ... Left them on my tailgate and drove away like a jackass
I worked some more trail smooth on the SOS addition today......you'll see the tools hanging in a tree. Past them it's smoooooooth. You'll see I did a little bench cutting where the trail goes over the two fallen trees by the tools. Hope to finish it off tomorrow before heading to Trail School.
You'll see some work on Texas Sunset also....but had to stop. Clayish soil was still a little to damp to work property. But I did fix/smooth out the areas were ruts had been made after last rain.
BTW...let me know how you like the change I made to the switchback on SxSW under the powerlines......nice flow to it now.
Enabling the elevation correction in the Garmin Connect application seems to yield more believable results. I got 675 ft of elevation gain/loss doing all of Ranger, SxSW, Copperhead, I-Can, and SOS with a max elevation of 735 and a min of 555. I noticed the elevation correction on bk0809's data was disabled. I'm curious what it looks like with it enabled.
That being said, another software once showed 1000 feet of elevation change at the 380 Greenbelt, so yeah, grain of salt.

I was out there with shadow today working on an extension and there were still quite a few muddy spots (the usual ones) so still got some waiting to do.
